Operating environments
what can our facilities be used for?
We offer innovation, testing and product development environments and expertise for versatile research purposes.
occupational vision & children’s funktional vision
In the occupational vision test environment, the focus is on work performance and work ability, ergonomics, optical aids, lighting and IT solutions as part of the research and development we carry out in this field.
The environment is also well suited for studying children’s functional vision and vision use.
Traffic vision
The traffic vision facility provides a safe environment to study human functional capacity, vision use, driving health, and observation and responses while driving and generally in traffic.
usability
The facilities can be used to study the usability of ophthalmology medications, dosing technologies, contact lenses and optical aids as well as to study and develop the usability of user interfaces and technical solutions.
Test packages
Packages of arrangements, materials and analyses have been developed for the test platforms, from which desired combinations can be assembled. In addition, we have expertise in developing new test, service and product packages according to customer needs. We provide an innovation platform and expert and consulting services for the analysis and reporting of results. Here are a few examples of the tests we offer:
the vision use of children
Children’s eyesight research offers a range of tests to map children’s eyesight and literacy. The tests are adaptable to children with different visual constraints and can also be used, when necessary, to find solutions that are best suited to individual children.
Gazing speed
A set of text scanning tests helps to assess functional vision especially in office work. The tests are customizable to support users with different visual constraints and can be used to study not only instantaneous vision, but also eye fatigue in a longer continuous task. Reference values for 20-70-year-olds with normal vision can be used as a reference to interpret the results.
Reaction time in traffic
The driving simulator can be used to investigate the use of vision, for example, by means of a reaction speed test, in which one must react to objects that enter the road while driving. Reference values for 20-70-year-olds with normal vision serve as a reference point for the reaction times. In addition, the data contain information about, for example, staying in the correct lane and the use of controls.
usability of ophthalmic drugs
When usability is tested, a combination of several cameras is used to produce comprehensive, high-quality videos. The test conditions are standardized but also adjustable for lighting if necessary.
Occupational vision
environment
The occupational vision space corresponds to a normal office environment, but it is quite flexible in terms of ergonomics and other arrangements. There is a contrast- and colour-calibrated computer screen that can be positioned flexibly according to the needs of the user. It is also possible to use a laptop and a tablet.
lightning
The lighting of the occupational vision space can be controlled and widely adjusted. If necessary, particularly poor lighting can also be created in the space, if this is essential for the solution to be tested or developed.
Measurements
Complete test packages are based on the data generated by the tests. Both a display-mounted and a wearable eye-tracking device are available. They can be used to monitor the user’s eye movements and to understand both usability problems and vision challenges. In addition, the movements of the user’s head and body can be monitored, for example, to detect ergonomic challenges.
Traffic vision
Environment
The traffic vision facility includes a display solution that can cover 180 degrees horizontally in the field of vision. This solution is used both in conjunction with a driving simulator and, for example, when studying pedestrians’ use of vision. Throughout, the display surfaces are positioned at least three meters from the driver, so that the gaze focus is as accurate as in a real car, and the performance is not affected by, for example, by presbyopia.
driving Simulator
The driving simulator is configurable for various needs. Various objects can be adapted to the environment, and they can also be created dynamically. The location of the car and the use of the controls can be read in real time. At the same time, it is possible to measure the driver’s responses by importing or removing detectable objects.
eye-tracking
The use of eye-tracking enables studying the use of vision in the simulation space, but also outside it. The head-wearable eye-tracking device can be used, for example, in a real car or other environments while moving.
Usability
usability testing
Usability testing may be carried out in the premises. In particular, the usability of vision-related products, such as eye drop dispensing kits, can be studied and both subjective data and video material that shows concrete details can be collected.

data collection
Tests can be recorded using several cameras. This gives an accurate image that captures, for example, the details of physical usability. The movements of the participants’ heads and bodies can also be recorded and analyzed. The lighting and arrangements of the premises may be modified for each test.
Children’s functional vision and vision use
Tests for children’s functional vision use
Our ready-made test packages include a set of tests for reading and vision use in children.
reading study
For children who are learning to read, the tests allow an analysis of the problems with vision, for example, and solutions that are best suited to individual children may be sought.
use of vion in everyday life
The traffic vision environment can also be used with children. The display solution that fills the entire field of vision enables, for example, the study of the observational ability in everyday life and an opportunity to bring the child into a simulated environment that is important for movement or other activities.
To whom are our services suitable?
companies
Companies can use Visaxion’s services for product development and innovation. In addition to concrete facilities and tests, we provide support for innovation in eye- and vision-related products through our network of experts.
research
The traffic and occupational vision environments can be used for a variety of research activities. Most equipment can also be transported to other premises if necessary. Various experimental designs can be built in the premises, and both simulator and occupational vision solutions can be adapted and further developed according to needs.
private and public health care
The completed tests and the collected reference data allow an effective mapping of visual function. Individuals and larger groups can be tested in the premises.
authorities
The facilities enable both the study of phenomena and the validation of solutions. Testing procedures may also be developed in the premises, which can be introduced on a broader scale.
schools and educational institutes
The premises and test procedures can be used to map pupils’ challenges and opportunities. You can also carry out studies related to theses and use the premises to collect data for analysis.
Experts
our team has expertice in ophthalmology and human-technology interaction. in addition, we have access to an extensive multidisciplinery network of experts.
